CEF Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF)
CEF AFIF is a funding program established by the European Commission to advance the development of alternative fuels infrastructure across the EU. This funding initiative aims to support the construction of electric vehicle charging stations, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) refueling stations, and hydrogen refueling stations, among other infrastructure projects.
The primary goal of the program is to establish a comprehensive network of alternative fuel infrastructure throughout the EU, which will allow alternative fuel vehicles to move more freely and reduce the carbon footprint of the transportation sector.
The CEF AFIF program was launched in 2021 as part of the existing CEF Transport Program, which is dedicated to improving the infrastructure networks of the EU in the areas of transport, energy, and digital communication. This program offers financial support to initiatives that will help develop a more sustainable, interconnected, and competitive European economy.
Through the CEF AFIF funding program, the EU hopes to promote the use of alternative fuels in various modes of transportation, such as passenger cars, buses, trucks, and ships.
