Reactivation of the Karlsruhe-Rastatt-Haguenau-Saarbrücken railway line
Currently, there is no train connection between Baden and northern Alsace; but that was not always the case. The German-French connection was twice destroyed and rebuilt during the Second World War. The tracks are still preserved along the entire route today, but about 40 km are out of service. In addition, the Wintersdorf Bridge, where the train used to pass, is now open to road traffic. Approximately two million potential passengers (from the Technology Region Karlsruhe and the Département Bas-Rhin) and 140 businesses located along this railway line could benefit from this connection.
